Behavioral health integration

Your mental health belongs in the conversation.

Behavioral health integration connects care for concerns such as depression or anxiety with your other health care. Through a participating practice, the team helps keep follow-up and communication organized.

Ask your care team

What care looks like

Understand the support.

Space to discuss how you are doing

The team may use structured questions to understand symptoms and track changes over time.

Medication questions, connected

Discuss questions or difficulties with your medicines so the treating clinician can review the plan.

Coordination with the right people

Your practice determines which professionals are involved and when additional behavioral health care is needed.

Before you begin

A clear first step.

  1. Talk with your practice

Ask whether integrated behavioral health support is appropriate for your needs.

  2. Meet the care arrangement

Learn who is involved, how information is shared, and what care the program includes.

  3. Agree on follow-up

Review consent, expected costs, and how ongoing conversations connect to your treatment plan.

Questions are welcome

A little more clarity.

For more about the program, read CMS’s behavioral health integration guide.

Does this mean I will see a psychiatrist?

Not necessarily. Some programs include psychiatric consultation; others use a different care arrangement. Ask your practice which professionals are involved in your program.

Does this replace counseling or other treatment?

The support is coordinated with your treatment plan. Your clinician determines whether counseling, specialist care, or other services are also appropriate.
